Our Mission

Chatham House is a world-leading policy institute, founded in 1920, and based in London with a mission to help build a sustainably secure, prosperous and just world. Our research is solutions-focused and structured around three themes to achieve peaceful thriving societies; sustainable and equitable growth; and accountable inclusive governance. The role of technology and the rapidly changing nature of geopolitics, including the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, are prominent in all aspects of our current work.

Debate and dialogue, rigorous and independent analysis and new ideas underpin all Chatham House’s activities and outputs, and innovation lies at the heart of the organization and our approach to our work.

Our policy solutions are grounded in the following core principles: the rule of law; representative and accountable government with effective separation of powers; open and well-regulated markets; a vibrant media and civil society that enables informed public debate; and a cooperative approach to international affairs based on the concept of an international society.
